Martin Luther King Student Union – UC Berkeley

The new MLK Student Union at UC Berkeley was overflowing with cardboard boxes. Foodservice, book store, pantry and meeting rooms were generating hundreds of boxes a day.

With dock space at a premium and the fire hazard of loose cardboard stored in a public garage raising red flags, the Zero-Waste team asked BATC to provide our Bramidan B-6030 baler. The B6030 bales 700-2,000 lb bales that the Zero Waste team brings back to their yard.

Bay Area Trash Compactor coordinated with a premier paper recycler to come pick up the bales at the yard twice a month and reimburse the University for the cardboard commodity.

BATC is helping UC Berkeley close the recycling loop and make money – simple.
